This Privacy Policy explains how Stack Freelance ("Stack Freelance", "we", "us") collects, uses, shares and protects personal data when you use stackfreelance.com and our tools, templates, blog and newsletters (the "Service").
1. Who we are
Stack Freelance provides free and paid tools, digital templates and educational content for freelancers. For privacy questions or requests, contact us at privacy@stackfreelance.com. Our grievance officer for India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act) can be reached at the same address with the subject "Grievance".
2. Data we collect
- Account data — name, email address, profile image and authentication identifiers when you create an account (handled by our authentication provider, Clerk).
- Billing data — plan, subscription status, transaction identifiers, and the last four digits and expiry of a payment method. Full card details are entered directly with our payment processors (Stripe, PayPal or Razorpay) and are not stored by us.
- Usage data — pages viewed, tools used, features clicked, approximate location derived from IP address, browser and device type, and referring URL.
- Content you submit — inputs to our tools (for example rates, invoices, or text you paste into AI-assisted tools) and any feedback or support messages you send.
- Newsletter data — your email address, subscription status and campaign engagement (opens and clicks).
- Technical logs — IP address, error diagnostics and security events, including data sent to our error-monitoring provider (Sentry).
3. How we use your data
- To provide, operate and secure the Service and your account.
- To process payments, manage subscriptions and send receipts and service emails.
- To respond to support requests and improve our tools and content.
- To send newsletters and product updates where you have opted in.
- To measure aggregate usage, detect abuse and prevent fraud.
- To comply with legal, tax and accounting obligations.
4. Legal bases
Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, we rely on: performance of a contract (providing the Service), legitimate interests (security, analytics and improvement), consent (newsletters and non-essential cookies), and legal obligation (tax and accounting records). Under India's DPDP Act we process personal data on the basis of your consent and for the purposes described in this policy; you may withdraw consent at any time.
5. Cookies and analytics
We use essential cookies and local storage to keep you signed in, remember preferences and process payments securely. With your consent where required, we also use analytics — Google Analytics 4 and a first-party analytics service — to understand aggregate usage. You can block or delete cookies in your browser; essential cookies may be required for the Service to work.
6. Sharing and processors
We do not sell personal data. We share it with service providers who process it on our behalf, including:
- Clerk — authentication and account management.
- Stripe, PayPal and Razorpay — payment processing and subscription billing.
- Resend — transactional and newsletter email delivery.
- Sentry — error monitoring and diagnostics.
- Google Analytics and our first-party analytics — aggregate usage measurement.
- AI providers — when you use an AI-assisted tool, the content you submit may be sent to a third-party AI model provider to generate the result.
- Hosting and infrastructure providers — to run the Service.
These providers are bound by their own terms and data-processing agreements. We may also disclose data where required by law, to protect our rights, or in connection with a merger or sale of the business.
7. International transfers
Some of our processors are located outside India, including in the United States and the European Union. Where we transfer personal data internationally, we use appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses and rely on your consent where required.
8. Retention
We keep account and billing data while your account is active and for a reasonable period afterwards, and for as long as required by tax and accounting law. Newsletter data is kept until you unsubscribe. Analytics data is retained in aggregate for up to 26 months. Server and security logs are typically kept for up to 90 days unless needed to investigate an incident.
9. Security
We use encryption in transit (HTTPS), access controls, and reputable processors. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. Please use a strong, unique password and do not submit confidential information to AI-assisted tools.
10. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to processing, receive a copy of your data, withdraw consent, or lodge a complaint. Under India's DPDP Act you may also nominate a person to exercise your rights. California residents may request to know, delete or correct personal information; we do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising. To exercise any right, email privacy@stackfreelance.com. We will respond within the period required by applicable law.
11. Children
The Service is intended for adults. It is not directed to children under 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided data, contact us and we will delete it.
12. Third-party links and affiliates
Our content may link to third-party websites, including through affiliate links. We are not responsible for their privacy practices. See our Affiliate Disclosure for details.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the revised version with a new "last updated" date and, for material changes, provide additional notice where appropriate.
